Handshake Software, a provider of SharePoint-based products and services to the legal sector, has announced the formation of a partnership with Fireman & Company, a legal management consulting firm.
The deal matches Handshake Software’s offerings and Fireman & Company’s “functional specifications, requirements and system design,” according to a statement released by the two companies.
Though financial details on the deal were not released by either company, Doug Horton, president and CEO of Handshake Software, said there will be “a much closer collaboration” between the two companies moving forward.
Handshake Software provides portals, enterprise search and mobility solutions to the legal sector. Fireman & Company advises on operational improvements, process analysis and the adoption of technology.
“Together, we are able to leverage the most extensive collection of lawyer-focused use cases and user experience … know-how with the top
SharePoint based software in [the] legal [sector],” Joshua Fireman, president of Fireman & Company, said in a statement to Legaltech News. He adds that their solutions focus on practice management, service delivery and client management.
The new collaboration comes after earlier projects involving both Fireman & Company and Handshake Software which fireman said, “builds on those successes by giving clients a one-stop solution to their Intranet and search needs.”
In the press release, the two companies say the collaboration “has already proven highly successful in several large law firm projects.” Though the two companies did not disclose any specific projects, Horton said, “The closer collaboration and cross-knowledge” provides economical “solutions that … meet the [law] firms’ requirements.”
News of the partnership comes shortly after a Concept Searching Ltd. study, which says the SharePoint and Office 365 metadata survey shows an increasing number of businesses realize that information governance is tied to business objectives.
Handshake Software provides SharePoint-based intranets, extranets and enterprise search solutions to about 50 percent of the Am Law 100, as well as 45 percent each of the Am Law 200 and National Law Journal 350. In total, there are about 120,000 users, according to Legaltech News.
On the other hand, Fireman & Company has been consulting to the legal sector for a decade. Among its clients have been corporate legal departments, as well as several law firms, such as: Littler Mendelson; Foley & Lardner; Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft; and Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr.
