Three Am Law 100 law firms have recently licensed solutions from Handshake Software, a provider of SharePoint-based products and services. The firms include: Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman; Troutman Sanders; and Seyfarth Shaw. According to Handshake, there is also a fourth that prefers to remain unidentified.
The company says that the firms licensed Handshake Software’s portal, enterprise search and expertise location solutions. It also adds that this licensing represents a key win for Handshake as well.
“Handshake provides firms such as the recent Am Law 100 additions with a SharePoint and Office 365 technology framework and architecture that is not only easy, fast to deploy and customize, but will grow with them regardless of SharePoint version,” Glenn LaForce, Handshake Software’s vice president of global sales & marketing, told Legaltech News.
“These … new wins extend Handshake’s footprint within the Am Law firm space and reiterates our commitment to the large and global law firm SharePoint and Office 365 market,” LaForce added.
In fact, Handshake Software provides SharePoint-based intranets, extranets and enterprise search solutions to about 50 percent of the Am Law 100, as well as 45 percent each of the Am Law 200 and National Law Journal 350. In total, there are about 120,000 users.
LaForce explained that the new licenses also continue “the shift … from legacy enterprises search engines to Microsoft search deployments powered by Handshake Software products.”
When it comes to benefits for law firms, LaForce said that Handshake “enhances existing SharePoint functionality and increases the usability for … users looking to engage via firm intranets (internally), with clients (extranets) and rely on enterprise search to find anything from relevant documents, financials and emails to the right subject matter expert on a given topic or area of law.”
Specifically, the four firms acquired:
- Handshake Software’s Portal solution (extending intranet functionality and usability),
- Handshake Software’s SP Bridge (extending SharePoint 2013 Search), and
- Handshake Software’s Expertise Locator (which helps firms find experts leveraging internal/line-of business data), and integration for financial, DMS and CRM.
“With Handshake Software’s products, our … team will be able to accelerate the development cycle by enabling us to quickly improve our matter pages through Handshake’s integration of disparate systems such as InterAction and financial reporting, as well as overcoming limitations in SharePoint page layouts through Handshake’s compelling visual display of the integrated information,” Lisa Gianakos, director of knowledge management at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, said in a statement.
